Taveuni Island Weather and Climate

The weather in Taveuni is like the rest of Fiji with hot humid weather in the summer ( November - March ) and cooler day and night temperatures in the winter months from April to October. The winter is also the high tourist season due to the pleasant temperatures and less rainfall.

Taveuni's central mountain ridge encourages clouds to build on the high peaks and misty rain is common in the upper reaches of the island especialy in late afternoon. This rainfall on the peaks fills the rivers that descend down to the coastline and the rainfall means that most of the inner island is covered by lush vegetation. The coastal regions of Taveuni, especially in the lower-lying areas of north ( Matei ) and south ( Vuna ) mean that there is less rainfall in those parts of the island. The southern coast is craggy and unable to be accessed by road. It catches the most rainfall and some waterfalls fall directly into the ocean along this remote coastline.
